If we take a product containing Vitamin B2 as an example, where a translucent packaging is designed, spectral blocking may be required. Vitamin B2 has three wavelength absorption peaks where damage occurs, in the UV region at 260nm and 370nm, and in the visible at 450nm. By mixing Pyrisma Indigo and Blue, a broad reflectivity centered around 450nm can be created. This together with the UV blocking characteristic will provide a degree of protection to the Vitamin B2. Of course, there will be a visible color to the packaging, as the primary function of these pigments are as effect pigments.

In a study in 2007 it was shown that the market of flame retardant additives in Europe represents 510 ktons/year. Around 70% are halogen free (in blue below). Metal hydroxides (Aluminium tri-hydroxide ATH and magnesium di-hydroxide MDH) comprise the most important segment in the market of the flame retardants ~310 ktons/year. Application are various and not only limited to wires and cables. It includes: x Wires and cables x Electrical housings and protective profiles x Electrical mains, adaptors x Carpet backing x Seats, plastics structures in rail/road/maritime transportation x Furniture x Insulation products x Consumer clothing x Electronic circuitry x Technical textiles Additives Paper 10 - Raspail Page 2 of 10 pages Addcom 2012 26-27 September 2012 – Aachen, Germany While being non-toxic and environmentally neutral, halogen-free compounds, especially ATH / MDH inorganic materials, require high level contents in order to be effective (high Limiting Oxygen Index LOI, UL94…), leading to poor mechanical performance, processing issue.
